  • Jimi Tenor & UMO Jazz Orchestra will release Mysterium Magnum via Tenor's own Herakles Records on September 4th. Forging his reputation through releases on Warp Records and Sähkö Recordings, Mysterium Magnum is Tenor's first album composed for big band, though in 2003 he fronted a similar configuration that performed at the Montreaux and North Sea jazz festivals. The label describes UMO as "a professional 16 piece orchestra specializing in jazz and contemporary rhythm music." The national jazz orchestra tends to focus on Finnish composers. The "Take Me Baby" producer, born in Lahti, Finland, describes himself as " composer/arranger of brave, detective/pulp fiction/car-chase/cinematic/afro-jazz." Herakles notes that Mysterium Magnum is not made up of traditional big band music. As the band's leader, Tenor composed the music and played a Russian synthesizer called the Ritm-2, as well as saxophone and flute. Tenor's label has focused on his own projects in the experimental and rock genres as well as two LPs of Nu Groove-style house made with his wife Nicole Willis under the name Cola & JImmu.
