  • The National Gallery will unveil a new installation in July called Soundscapes, with Jamie xx among the participants. Six contemporary musicians and sound artists have been called on for the project, which runs from July 8th through September 6th. They've each been asked to submit a musical response to a painting of their choice from the gallery's extensive collection. Each composition and corresponding artwork will then be displayed side-by-side in a soundproofed room in the Sainsbury Wing. In addition to Jamie xx, whose chosen painting is Théo van Rysselberghe's Coastal Scene (see right), the gallery has commissioned opera composer Nico Muhly, Turner Prize-winning sound artist Susan Philipsz and Canadian multimedia artists Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller.
