  • The final Substrata festival will take place from July 15th through the 18th. Organized and curated by Rafael Anton Irisarri—AKA The Sight Below—the three-day festival is dedicated to "subtle aesthetics that go beneath the surface and into deeper aural territories." Irisarri announced this week that the 2015 event will be the final edition of Substrata, and shared a lineup that's topped by Lubomyr Melnyk ("the world's fastest pianist," says RA's own Matthew Bennett) alongside Arovane (who dropped his Aarlenpeers ten-inch in February) and Taylor Deupree. It also includes sets from experimental composer and pianist Rachel Grimes, Jefre Cantu-Ledemsa—backed by Paul Clipson on visuals—and Tiny Vipers, playing a set with all analog synthesizers and ambient tapes. The all-ages event series will be held at the Chapel Performance Space and will encompass not only live performances, but workshops and a field recording trip to the Cascade mountain range. More info on all of those activities is available at Substrata's official site. As with the previous editions, all tickets are available pre-sale only and will not be available at the door.
