  • Gunnar Haslam will make his way to Chicago this Saturday to headline a Deep Turnt party. Deep Turnt—whose name is a play on the title of that classic Pépé Bradock track—launched late last year, and takes place at Door No. 3, the cozy downstairs lounge beneath the Wicker Park venue Double Door. Focused on the deep and dubby side of techno, it's the brainchild of Olin, a Smart Bar resident (next month in Detroit, he'll DJ at that club's jointly thrown Movement party with RA at TV Lounge) and producer for labels like Argot and God Particle, along with fellow locals Studio Casual, a duo who operate their own imprint, Stripped & Chewed. Faso and Eric Cloutier were the previous out-of-town guests at Deep Turnt, and the party this weekend, due to run from 9 PM to 3 AM, features another NYC artist—Gunnar Haslam, a Brooklyn-based producer and DJ who's been garnering international attention with records on Delsin, L.I.E.S. and Argot. (He also works with Tin Man as Romans, and the duo just made their live debut at The Bunker a few days ago.) Both Olin and Studio Casual will take to the decks in support. Looking further ahead, Deep Turnt will keep it local in June on Friday the 5th, with a couple other Smart Bar residents, Sevron and Phillip Stone, going back-to-back, and the duo Forward Antenna Technologies peforming a live hardware set. Then, on Friday, July 3rd, the crew is set to welcome New York techno head and studio wiz Phil Moffa, who'll play live for his Chicago debut.
