  • 2000 (And We're Still Here), a sought-after 12-inch produced by Virgo Four member Merwyn Sanders, will be reissued by Chicago label Stripped & Chewed. The record was originally released on Christabel Records in 1999, and is probably best known for its feel-good B-side "Fannie Likes 2 Dance." Stripped & Chewed's reissue, however, comes with a slight twist. In addition to an extra track called "Beautiful," the upcoming version features a different version of "Fanny Likes 2 Dance" called "Mimi Likes 2 Dance." Sanders reached out to Berlin-London promoters Louche (apparently long-time fans of the release), who subsequently shared his explanation on Facebook.
I changed the name to Mimi Likes 2 Dance in honor of my wife. To put out a track with an ex's name would not be cool. So it's not because she requested it. She didn't know about until I showed her the test pressing. It was a nice surprise for her. The track is exactly like the original except for that vocal change! Even using all the same music stems and the EP includes a bonus track called 'Beautiful.' This repress was about honoring my wife, giving a little extra and providing the track for those who have been requesting it!
2000 (And We're Still Here) is likely one of the most keenly anticipated reissues of the year so far. An under-the-radar favourite for some time, it's steadily become known outside the realms of dedicated house classicists thanks to a placement on Joy Orbison's 2014 Essential Mix and a failed Kickstarter campaigning raising money for a repress. Stripped & Chewed's reissue is due out in May. In the meantime, listen to "Fannie Likes 2 Dance" via the player below.
