  • Rrose's next move is a two-track LP for Further Records that will land next month. First surfacing on Sandwell District around four years ago, Rrose has gone on to deliver mind-bending techno tracks and remixes to labels like Stroboscopic Artefacts, Token and Ostgut Ton—not to mention Eaux, the shadowy stateside producer's own imprint. This record for Further looks to be an exploration, far from the dance floor, of even more cerebral sounds. Titled Rrose Plays James Tenney: Having Never Written A Note For Percussion, it's made up of two drone soundscapes, each around a half-hour in length and each a different performance of a 1971 minimalist piece, often much shorter when performed elsewhere, from American composer James Tenney. Further describes it as "requiring the performer to play one percussive instrument constantly, taking it from the quietest point to the loudest and back again." Using a 32-inch gong and two mallets, Rrose performed the piece back in 2012 at a Dupont Underground event in Washington DC (in some unused train tunnels), a recording of which is made available on the B-side here. The A-side features a studio version of the performance. On the events front, Rrose is confirmed to premiere this show in New York City later this month, on Thursday the 26th, at West Park Presbyterian Church—that night, hosted by The Bunker, will also feature Demdike Stare playing their live score to the 1922 silent film Haxan. This video, posted on Rrose's YouTube page two years ago, should offer some insight into the project. You can stream both tracks via SoundCloud below.
