- The Brooklyn promoter and blog has corralled exclusives from Terekke, Traxman and Logan Takahashi.
Weird Magic has launched a new record label with a compilation called Purple Trax Vol. 1.
Weird Magic launched in 2010, offering a more thoughtful, psychedelic take on party photography while presenting a number of events as Williamsburg's nightlife wave crested. In the process, they've hosted early, often unannounced performances from Grimes, A$AP Rocky and Teklife while documenting the borough's ongoing love affair with new age, hardware-oriented dance music, epitomized by the scene at defunct yoga studio-cum-performance space Body Actualized Center.
Purple Trax Vol. 1 draws from many characters within that milieu. Aurora Halal, known for her Mutual Dreaming parties, is featured, as are Huerco S, Terekke and Logan Takahashi of Teengirl Fantasy. Traxman provides an exclusive production and several new names from around the Weird Magic axis, such as Beta Librae, appear on record for the first time. The entire comp is streaming now in conjunction with a Kickstarter campaign, which if successful, will result in a pressing of the set onto purple vinyl. The label has also laid out ambitious plans for 2015 on the crowdfunding page.
