London label Hypercolour is gearing up to issue 4, a new album from Luke Vibert's Kerrier District alias.
Vibert, the much-loved, wide-ranging and generally 303-obsessed producer from Cornwall also known for aliases like Wagon Christ and Plug, made his debut on Hypercolour last year with Ridmik, an album credited to his own name. He's now set to return to the label as Kerrier District, a disco and funk-leaning moniker that to date has been behind just three sequentially titled original releases: an album on Rephlex from 2004, and two singles from 2006 and 2011.
With 4, Vibert is said to be inspired in part by the cult-classic 1978 Black Devil LP Disco Club—Rephlex put out a Kerrier District remix of a cut from that record, "Timing, Forget The Timing," back in 2004. It's due out in early April, and a press release promises "a glorious collage of samples, old skool drum loops and large doses of acid funk and deep electronic disco." There are 12 tracks on the vinyl version of 4, with two bonus cuts ("Showbix" and "Disclone") featuring on the CD and digital formats.
