  • The owners of Michigan venues Magic Stick and Clutch Cargo are teaming up to create a new space dedicated to dance music. The Magic Stick is a long-running venue housed in the upstairs level of The Majestic complex. It's been mostly associated with rock music over its long-running lifespan, but they've had a habit of booking more and more electronic music lately—with Bruno Pronsato, Ryan Hemsworth and Rustie all appearing on recent bills—and the new space will cater specifically to DJs. According to Detroit News, the $300,000 renovation will include new bars, bathrooms, a bigger stage and a new sound system. The downstairs Majestic Cafe and Majestic Theatre will continue to host live music events. It's a collaboration between Majestic owner Dave Zainea and fellow promoter Amir Daiza, who ran the Clutch Club in Pontiac and currently runs Elektricity, which often books bigger, more EDM-leaning names. Construction is set to begin in the next few weeks and should be completed by mid-April. "The rock and roll market is saturated, it's time to change," Zainea is quoted as saying in the Detroit News article. "Amir has a good track record and I think it's what's needed downtown."
