- The new LP is a collaboration with IBM, based on a summer project that turned data from US Open matches into music.
James Murphy's US Open remix project has developed into a full album, due out on December 19th in collaboration with IBM.
The concept was first unveiled this summer, when James Murphy teamed up with the computing giant to create a series of "algorithmically generated soundscapes" built from raw data taken from machines at the matches. Then he started reshaping those sounds into shorter, deliberate remixes, which is what the 12-track, plainly-titled Remixes Made With Tennis Data collects.
There's no full tracklist yet, but according to Pitchfork it'll be released through the IBM SoundCloud page. You can check out two of the remixes here and stream a clip of a new one, "Match 176," below.
