Sónar announces first names for 2015

- A new live show from The Chemical Brothers is top of the list for the Barcelona festival's next edition.
- The first wave of acts for Sónar 2015 have been announced. Next year's festival, running from June 18th through 20th, is the 22nd edition of Sónar. As usual there will be two parts to the festival: Sónar By Day (at Fira Montjuic) and Sónar By Night (at Fira Gran Via). The first announcement includes a new live show from The Chemical Brothers, ahead of a new studio album slated for 2015. "The show will be an intense ride, hold tight," says Tom Rowlands of The Chemical Brothers. "We dream of new sounds and different frames, both music and visual. We hope to amaze ourselves." The other acts billed are Autechre, Kindness, Evian Christ, Fat Freddy's Drop, Daniel Avery, Ten Walls, Lee Gamble, SOPHIE, Holly Herndon, PXXR GVNG, Kiasmos, Kate Tempest, Tourist, Vessel, Niño, Mans O and Helena Hauff. The festival's technology arm, Sónar +D, will be held for the third time. It will explore, among other things, "the continual hybridizations between the music and technology sectors." In total more than 150 artists will perform at Sónar 2015—more names will be announced in the coming months. Ahead of the Barcelona edition, several satellite Sónar festivals will be held, beginning in South Africa this month (Johannesburg on December 12th and then Cape Town on the 15th and 16th). February 2015 will see the next editions of Sónar Reykjavik and Sónar Stockholm, both taking place February 12th through 14th, while Sónar Copenhagen will happen on March 13th and 14th.
