  • Veteran Canadian producer The Mole has announced a new series of collaborations called Best Buds, with the first out next week. Colin de la Plante's lengthy list of credits as The Mole includes appearances on well-loved labels like Wagon Repair, Musique Risquée, Ostgut Ton and Perlon, to name a few (he's also a part of The Modern Deep Left Quartet). His latest endeavour, featuring friends both old and new, will find a home on his own label Maybe Tomorrow, where he released his 2013 LP Caregiver. It reportedly calls upon the lengthy jams of the '70s krautrock scene for inspiration. A press release explains: "We’re all fans of krautrock here and love how likeminded artists used to come together, pass the pipe and press record—leading to some of the finest records of the 1970s." Best Buds Vol. 1 has de la Plante teaming with two other artists, who, like him, lived in Canada and now call Berlin home. The first is Hreno, who's worked with The Mole on a number of remixes in recent years. Their joint effort, "Things Are Heating Up In The Grizzly Maze," is a twelve-minute cut "named after their adventures in the wilds of Canada." The B-side collaboration is with Cadenza affiliate Ernesto Ferreyra, and that one is even more sprawling—the vinyl cut is 16 minutes long, and the full digital version stretches past the 26-minute mark.
