  • Mefjus will release his debut album, Emulation, on December 1st. Austria-based producer Martin Schober has become a staple of the Critical Music roster in the past year, after racking up releases for smaller labels like Mindtech, Trust In Music and Ammunition Recordings. He's known for his ultra-heavy, floor-focused sound, and Emulation is said to complete his journey from using mostly sampled material to using almost entirely self-generated, "inside the box" sounds (hence the name). "It's a parallel to everyday society in which we're moving further and further away from human resources in favour of human-machine-hybrid systems that [affect] everything from our consumption of news and media to books and of course music," Schober says. "Modern music making has become so revolutionised that there's no longer a need for hours of painstaking sound design. Artists can find all the sounds they need online. Personally I feel that making your own sounds is one of the most essential assets of any music producer today." The record features collaborations with like-minded German producers Phace and Misanthrop, as well as Makism, Dutch hip-hop group Dope D.O.D and vocalist Zoe Klinck. It's a relatively rare venture into the artist album format from Critical as well, marking their third full-length LP following previous contributions from Enei and Sabre. Check out "Saturate" below.
