  • Noise In My Head will start its own record label this November. The Melbourne radio show turned Sydney podcast began back in 2005 and has attracted a large number of international guest appearances from the likes of Beppe Loda, Nicky Siano, Kenji Takimi, Prins Thomas and Andrew Weatherall. Founder and host Michael Kucyk has announced that NIMH Records will be launching next month, with Suzanne Kraft contributing the label's first release. We spoke to Kucyk about the record and his plans for the imprint:
What was the catalyst for turning Noise In My Head into a record label? I guess I've been fighting the urge for a while being in constant dialogue with artists via guest mixes. My partner choreographed a Sydney Fashion Week show and commissioned Suzanne Kraft to score these mechanical body movers. They deserved to be appreciated in their own right, giving me some much needed urgency. Will vinyl be the primary medium or will digital play a role as well? A lot of consideration goes into the psychical product so vinyl is first and foremost. The cover of NIMH001 adapts a painting by Melbourne artist Thomas Jeppe and is laid out by progressive designer Manuel Buerger. Their work doesn't really have the same effect in the digital form. That said, a digital release will be eventual. Will there be any particular music policy or focus with the releases? What about geography? Much like the radio show, it's open season. No point boxing ourselves in a corner. If it's good, it's good. While NIMH Records will be the platform for new material, I'm also developing a sub-label, Efficient Space, for reissue projects. Who have you been working with so far and who’s lined up for future output? Lucy Cliché is up next with a four-track EP of wavy techno abstractions. I've been watching her play in Sydney DIY/punk bands for 10 years and this project is as tough as nails. On Efficient Space, I'm working with the French missing persons bureau on a compilation of folk, new wave and art music and coaxing a 90s ambient house producer to be finally heard outside of Melbourne.
The two-track 12-inch by Suzanne Kraft, titled Tracks For Performance, is due for release late next month. Tracklist 01. Dead Ringer 02. Ruff Bathers Noise In My Head Records will release Tracks For Performance on November 24th, 2014.
