- The dancehall label run by Sun Araw and M. Geddes Gengras will release a full-length collection next month.
Cameron Stallones (AKA Sun Araw) and M. Geddes Gengras will drop a compilation chronicling their label, Duppy Gun Productions, on November 17th.
The label had its beginnings in 2011 with the collaboration between the two American artists and Jamaican band The Congos, which resulted in the Icon Give Thank album on RVNG Intl a year later. Two discarded songs from those sessions, "Earth" and "Multiply," were later embellished by vocalists Early One and Dayone, respectively. The duo decided to self-release those tracks as the first single on a new label called Duppy Gun Productions. That record and a further three 12-inches, released with help from Stones Throw, form the backbone of "Multiply" Duppy Gun Prod. Vol. 1.
Made up of those four singles plus some extra recordings made in 2013 (with the duo bringing prospective new producers to Jamaica to record with vocalists), "Multiply" Duppy Gun Prod. Vol. 1 features riddims from Matthewdavid, Aaron Coyes of Peaking Lights, San Gabriel's Butchy Fuego as well as vocalists I Jahbar, Fyah Flames, Lukan I, Bookfa and more. The label also promises a "visual version excursion" created with help from filmmaker Tony Lowe. You can hear soundclips over at the Stones Throw website, and stream "Mad" below.
