  • The Werkstatt synth from Moog is getting a wide release. The hardware box—full name: The Werkstatt-Ø1 Moogfest 2014 Kit—was, as the name suggests, originally built for a series of workshops at this year's Moogfest in Asheville, North Carolina. It makes a handful of classic Moog circuits (VCO, 4-pole Moog Ladder filter, LFO and more) accessible to anyone with an interest in building a synth, with no soldering or special skills required. Though it's ostensibly an educational tool, users also get a powerful-sounding Moog synthesizer at the end of the buildout. Originally available just at Moogfest and then a smattering of US dealers, the product will now be available at Moog dealers the world over. The company has also launched a new website, Werkstatt Workshop, where users can learn more about the devices and nerd out over user-submitted mods. The video below will give you a better idea about what the Werkstatt does and how it sounds.
