  • Ricardo Donoso will release a new LP next week. A Song For Echo is a soundtrack to visual artist Julie Nymann's film of the same name, which was conceived as a collaborative project. It premiered last September in Boston and tells the familiar Greek mythology story of Echo, who is in love with Narcissus but can only repeat what others say. Her sadness at his rejection turns her into to stone, leading the film's protagonist to embark "on a spiritual journey through earth and water, attempting to discover herself and her relationship to the elements before nightfall." Donoso's soundtrack combines his two sides into one more abstract whole, mixing broken beats in with more ambient, spatial touches, with the press release describing it as "an all-consuming, disorienting immersion." Donoso himself told RA that the LP marks a transition point in his career towards more "distinct" material following his run of releases on Digitalis and this year's Scuba Death album. It also marks the first release on his new Kathexis label.
