  • A new monthly series in Columbus, Midwest Fresh, will kick off this Saturday. Midwest Fresh will be hosted by Contrast, a group consisting of longtime local DJs Kevin Brugger, Jed James and Tony Fairchild, and it'll happen at 566 West Rich, a warehouse space also used as an art studio and gallery. The organizers promise "no glitz" and "no glamor," a focus on the music (particularly from artists around the Midwest) and a proper sound system. For this weekend's event, they've got a pair of co-headliners. Shawn Rudiman, a longtime Pittsburgh producer, will bring his all-hardware jams to town with a live set—his first gig in Columbus in twelve years. Titonton Duvante, originally from Columbus but now based in New York, will come through for a set on the decks. The three Contrast DJs complete the lineup. The party will start at 10 PM and go all night, and a BYOB policy will be in effect. Looking ahead to future events, dates for which are still TBA, live sets will come from Beau Wanzer (who recently revealed plans for his first album) and Erika (who'll be debuting in Japan next month at the famed Labyrinth Festival), and god particle's Sassmouth and Olin will DJ.
