  • Long-running web radio collective Dublab will present their annual all-night ambient concert at Sonos Studio in Los Angeles this Saturday, August 16th. The free event began in 2006 and draws its inspiration from minimalists Terry Riley and La Monte Young's marathon concerts. Young collaborator Jon Hassell will perform Solid State, a 1974 composition described as an invisible sonic sculpture which takes place in time. The trumpeter and composer seems to be mounting a bit of a comeback, having just played his first LA gig in four years. Cameron Stallones' meditative psychedelic group Sun Araw will also play live, as will modular synthesist M. Geddes Gengras, Diva, Brainfeeder's Matthewdavid, White Rainbow, synth duo Phillips & Jensen and Sam Wolk. The show will also host a number of DJs including Ale Cohen and Sam Cooper of improv-driven dance band Pharaohs, Jimmy Tamborello (of The Postal Service and Dntel) and Dublab affiliates Frosty, Carlos Nino and Suzanne Kraft (the latter also known for his productions on and ESP Institute). Past Tonalism events have featured sets from Mia Doi Todd, Julia Holter and Teebs. Check out some recordings from the 2011 edition and RSVP for the event here.
