  • More details have been revealed about the Livid Instruments DS1. The MIDI controller, which was floated back in February, packs nine faders, four encoders, 44 knobs and 25 RGB buttons into a lightweight aluminum frame. Now, the device has a street price—$449—and a release date set for later this month. They've also released a photo showing the finalized design; from the looks of it, they made room for the three additional encoders by doing away with the small display on the upper-right side of the prototype. "We've both been championing quality computer music production and performance for the last ten years," Livid's founder and CEO Jay Smith says of his company and Dubspot, the New York- and LA-based music production school that's their partner in the DS1. "We’ve focused on producing only high-quality and innovative products for electronic music, and Dubspot has transformed the way music is taught. This product has been a result of the years of discussions we've had together." Livid Instruments will release the DS1 in August 2014 for a suggested retail price of $449.
