  • New York City power electronics artist Pharmakon has announced details of her second album, Bestial Burden. After a year of extensive touring, Pharmakon has returned with an album based on her own recent experience undergoing major surgery. "I [began to feel] a widening divide between my physical and mental self," she says of the process, which ultimately led to her losing an organ. "I began to explore the idea of the conscious mind as a stranger inside an autonomous vessel, and the tension that exists between these two versions of the self." She wrote much of what would become Bestial Burden while bedridden for three weeks following the surgery, and recorded the material at Brooklyn's Heaven Street Records upon recovery. The album is due for release on October 13th via Brooklyn-based Sacred Bones Records, and she will be touring Europe alongside Swans in the fall to promote the record.
