  • Numbers will release two Tuff City Kids remixes of "Portland," a vintage track from Dave Clark's Sparky alias, near the end of July. "Portland" first came out in 2002 on Stuffrecords, one of the labels that teamed up to form Numbers. It became a go-to cut for heavy-hitting DJs like Ricardo Villalobos, who also transformed it into a sprawling two-part remix on Numbers late last year. Now it's time for Tuff City Kids—the German duo of Gerd Janson and Phillip Lauer that's lately been busy with plenty of remix work—to take a whack at it with two new versions, a "Looney Mix" and "TB Mix," to be released on vinyl and digital formats. The label explains Janson and Lauer's approach like this: "Having requested the parts of the original track, the intrepid duo traveled back in time to the year 1991, set up their samplers and got busy with the breakbeats and euphoric synth pads." You can try out samples of both remixes below.
