  • Simian Mobile Disco have revealed details of a US tour, kicking off on September 18th in Washington. The two-piece outfit recently released a new album called Whorl, which they recorded over the course of a three-day jam session at a Wild West-themed vacation town in the California desert. (It's something they discussed in detail as part of RA's Machine Love series.) Their new, computer-less live set is based around the collaborative process they honed while recording Whorl. They say the show is built around "one box of modular synth stuff each, a sequencer, and a mixing desk. Nothing else." The tour begins at Washington's U Street Music Hall on September 18th, and takes in dates in Philadelphia, Cambridge, New York, Chicago, Seattle and Los Angeles, before wrapping up at Mezzanine in San Francisco on September 27th. "We wanted to get away from making music by pushing little blocks around a screen," says Simian Mobile Disco's James Ford. "In the old live show we used to run a computer, but with this one we were keen to pull that safety rug out from underneath us." The duo has shared a short film about the process of recording Whorl, which included a live performance to an intimate crowd in California's Joshua Tree National Park. You can watch it below. European tour dates are yet to be announced, though a show at London's Union Chapel is locked in for September 9th.
