  • The first Sustain-Release festival will happen in the Catskills Mountains in New York from September 12th through 14th. It's an undertaking between Aurora Halal—a New York producer, DJ and the promoter behind the Mutual Dreaming parties and label—and Zara Wladawsky, a fellow promoter who has had roles at Underground Quality, NTS Radio and Halcyon. (They've also had some help from Bossa Nova Civic Club.) Inspired by their experiences at UK camping festivals like Freerotation, Sustain-Release takes place at Camp Lakota in Wurtsboro, two hours north of New York City. There will be two indoor stages with sound by Tsunami Bass and "immersive lighting installations" from Nitemind. The capacity is limited to just 495, and there will be a shuttle bus from NYC available for those who don't want to camp. The lineup so far focuses on house and techno: Rrose, XOSAR and Joey Anderson are among the biggest names. Connecticut deep house don Jus-Ed, Detroit's MGUN, synth-loving duo Blondes and White Material's Morgan Louis join a handful of others, with more names to be announced soon.
