Whether you're visiting or you're a resident, New York City Pride is a busy time for people of all stripes. Here are some suggestions for how to spend your party weekend.
Pride weekend anywhere usually means good parties, and New York is certainly no exception. Some promoters have prepared explicitly pride-themed gigs, while others just happen to land on the fêted weekend—either way, you've got plenty of options.
UK crew Horse Meat Disco will throw a Pride party at Cielo on Friday. Though it's hard to imagine a better soundtrack for your festivities than their brand of retro-minded disco, there are other promising events that evening, too. Art Department at Output, the bass-heavy sounds of J. Phlip at Verboten and a star-studded Night Slugs sixth anniversary party with Bok Bok and the filthy-mouthed Mike Dunn are some other choice cuts.
On Saturday afternoon, get down with Jimmy Edgar on the roof of Output, and then once the sun sets they'll host their Pride event with Discodromo, who have been doing their own US tour of Pride weeks lately. Berghain resident Boris (known for his CSD Berlin sets), Mike Servito, Carlos Souffront and Honcho's Aaron Clark will join them. But then you've also got Andrés at Glasslands for Discovery, or Pearson Sound and Rrose at 88 Palace.
Once you're done with the march on Sunday afternoon, set sail in the evening with the 718 Sessions Annual Boat Ride soundtracked by Danny Krivit (with a Supersnaxx afterparty at Stage 48). You could also check out BPM for a set from Junior Vasquez, or, finally, Cielo's Pride And Love night with Angel Moraes.
Note that none of these parties are affiliated with the official NYC Pride organization. Check out their website for a list of all their activities and events.
