  • Daniel Bell is preparing for live sets as DBX in San Francisco and Chicago. Appearances from Bell's much-loved DBX alias are rare: he played live in New York last November (the first local DBX gig in more than fifteen years), and then came home to Detroit in late May for a DBX set at Movement Festival. (He also just played Japan's Taico Club Festival a few days ago.) These two gigs will be his first as DBX in both cities—and after them, Bell tells RA there won't be any more in the US for at least a year. Both parties also have Sassmouth, a Chicago-based DJ who spends plenty of time in San Francisco, on the lineup. The SF show will happen tomorrow at Monarch, courtesy of As You Like It, and Bell will then touch down in the Windy City next Friday the 13th to play Sassmouth's Planet Chicago residency at Smart Bar. As you might expect, Bell's setup is hardware-only (no laptop), comprised mostly of original gear he used back in the '90s. Tickets to both shows, in San Francisco and Chicago, are available on RA.
