  • Tim Lawrence is finishing work on a new book titled Life And Death On The New York Dance Floor, 1980-83. It'll be the third book from Lawrence, a well-regarded music writer and journalist from London who previously authored two long and very comprehensive texts, Love Saves The Day: A History Of American Dance Music Culture, 1970-79 in 2004 and Hold On To Your Dreams: Arthur Russell And The Downtown Music Scene, 1973-92 in 2009. (We featured an extract from Hold On To Your Dreams near the end of that year.) This book, which like the previous two is to be published by Duke University Press, will examine the "combustible dialogue" of New York City's post-disco dance music culture in the early '80s. Unsurprisingly an exhaustive effort, the book will feature more than 120 interviews from scene veterans like Arthur Baker, Afrika Bambaataa, Danny Krivit and Sal Principato, to name just a few, along with around 100 pieces of artwork and "17 unique DJ biographies." You can read more about it over at Lawrence's website. Duke University Press will publish Life And Death On The New York Dance Floor, 1980-83 in early 2015.
