  • A Cabaret Voltaire compilation called #7885 (Electropunk to Technopop 1978 - 1985) will be released via Mute Records in June. The 18-track collection pulls together tracks from two eras: 1978 through '81 and 1983 through '85. From '79 to '81 the band comprised Richard H Kirk, Stephen Mallinder and Chris Watson, while the '83-'85 stint saw the group operating without Watson. #7885 (Electropunk to Technopop 1978 - 1985) has been curated by Richard H. Kirk. "I decided to gather the more concise elements of the work," he says. "Hence the choice of 7-inch singles, edits and shorter album tracks, a kind of sound bite take on CV." Kirk adds: "It was a time where we got to do what we do, but in different areas, we wanted to push the boundaries of electronic music, we wanted to place what we were doing into places where it really shouldn't be. We certainly didn't want to carry on repeating what we'd done for the ten years previous." The compilation arrives with liner notes from Kirk and Mute founder Daniel Miller. It'll come out on digital, CD and double-vinyl formats. #7885 (Electropunk to Technopop 1978 - 1985) is the third in an ongoing series of Cabaret Voltaire reissues on Mute. Last year saw the re-release of the band's 1981 album Red Mecca as well as a boxset called #8385 (Collected Works 1983 – 1985). You can listen to one of the compilation's tracks, "Crackdown (Radio Edit 83)," below:
