  • Livid Instruments has a new controller on the way called the DS1. The Austin, Texas-based controller-maker designed the DS1 in collaboration with Dubspot, an electronic music production academy with campuses in New York and Los Angeles. According to Dubspot founder and CEO Dan Giove, the inspiration behind the USB mixer was not being able to find one that was a perfect fit for the school's student workstations. "We could never find a single complementary controller on the market to meet our functionality and durability needs, so we decided to simply build one ourselves, with Livid Instruments as the perfect partner," he says. The DS1, which connects to a computer via class-compliant MIDI USB, comes with nine 60-millimeter faders, 44 backlit rotary knobs, 25 RGB buttons, an expression pedal input and a push encoder. The unit is built from aluminum, with the aim of making it both lightweight and durable. Livid has yet to announce a price or release date, but Dubspot's webpage for the DS1 has a form that lets you sign up for email updates. The DS1 is coming soon from Livid Instruments and Dubspot.
