  • Nuits Sonores has made the first announcement for 2014, taking place in Lyon from May 28th through to June 1st. As usual, the festival will unfold over several venues in France's second biggest city, with separate daytime and nighttime lineups. They've only announced the details of the daytime events so far, but it's already looking like quite a full schedule. For this year—the 12th edition of Nuits Sonores—the theme is confluence. It's named both for the district where it takes place, and for the continued collaboration between the European Lab (where conferences are held) and Nuits Sonores itself. They've also chosen to highlight Glasgow—a city they see as spiritually similar to Lyon—in the form of daily musical events as well as films and exhibits. The daytime program is the usual mix of club-friendly DJs and live bands, both popular and unknown. Apollonia, Dixon, Ten Walls, Daniel Avery, Andy Votel and NTS Radio's Jon Rust are among the DJing highlights, while Gold Panda, Dum Dum Girls, Kranky band Disappears and former Sonic Youth member Lee Ranaldo will all play live. The Glasgow-themed events, which will take place at the Maison De La Confluence in the afternoons, will feature the likes of Optimo, Kode9 and Golden Teacher. Details of the nighttime parties as well as the conferences, workshops and other daytime happenings are still forthcoming.
