For the first time, we present our take on the best clubbing options from across the nation.
From the 12 grapes at midnight to the follow morning's breakfast of chocolate con churros, New Year's is a big deal in Spain. For the younger generation, a night on the tiles is a must. Whether it be electro nights in Barcelona or house and techno all-dayers on the outskirts of Madrid, there's plenty to choose from.
Starting with New Year's Eve, Mondo will welcome Michael Mayer to the Spanish capital, with support coming from resident pairing Borderline. Barcelona offers a wider range, with Kerri Chandler spinning at KER Club, Dan Ghenacia turning out for Club4 and party-starting duo 2ManyDJs topping the bill as part of a high-profile event at Teatre Principal on Las Ramblas. For fans of more leftfield sounds, Sex Tags Mania chief DJ Fett Burger will join Cardopusher at Adriantic in the nearby city of Sant Adrià de Besòs, which is easily reachable by road and public transport.
While perhaps not the first place you'd associate with New Year's, Ibiza isn't without a noteworthy party or two. Following on from a record-breaking second season, Music On will throw its first end-of-year bash at Amnesia, with Jamie Jones, Pan-Pot and Leon joining Marco Carola on the Terrace. Meanwhile for the more commercially-minded, Riva Starr has been booked to man proceedings at Pacha.
In the north, Lovejoy will team back up with Oscar Mulero for a bash at El Jardin 2 in Gijón. The Spanish techno veteran has been booked for a three-hour set, with support from Logannn! and Matias Valdmont. At the other end of the country, national treasure Cristian Varela will spin at Paris 15 in Malaga as part of Electroyear Festival.
Rolling on into New Year's Day, it'll hard to look past the inaugural edition of Madrid Winter Festival. Taking place approx. 40 minutes outside of the capital in Moralzarzal, Richie Hawtin, Paul Kalkbrenner, Scuba, Chris Liebing, Loco Dice and Gaiser will all gather for the 15-hour marathon. Also on the outskirts of Madrid, two of the city's heavyweight outfits—Replay and Reverse— will team up for an event at Groove Dance Club. Matthias Tanzmann, Paul Ritch, Technasia and Tom Demac have all been confirmed.
Elsewhere, Elrow and Minus will join forces at KER Club in Barcelona, with Richie Hawtin, Gaiser, Hobo and Matador all on the bill. On the White Isle, Circoloco returns, with residents Jamie Jones, Cassy, Dyed Soundorom, Dan Ghenacia and Shonky performing alongside a rare DC-10 outing from Sven Väth. Tania Vulcano, who's also been booked for Circoloco, will then make the journey to Cadiz, where she heads up an Ibiza-themed affair at Ohju Club alongside Jose De Divina and Pacha resident Angel Linde.
