  • Numbers will re-release Sparky's "Portland" with a Ricardo Villalobos remix on December 9th. The track, a live jam recorded by Glasgow's Dave Clark in 1998, was included on the very first Stuff Records release back in 2002 (a "rambling compilation" according to the label), which preceded the first Numbers club night and became one of the vaunted party's first anthems. The Scottish crew, which later merged the Stuff, Wireblock and Dress 2 Sweat labels to work together as Numbers, discovered that minimal house mastermind Ricardo Villalobos was a fan of the track. Now, they'll reissue the track with a hefty Villalobos remix. Recorded live to tape (as with the original), the rework is a 30-minute groove split into two parts. A self-described "experiment" for the always adventurous producer, it's also meant to work at both vinyl speeds, plotting out a techno groove at 33 RPM and leaning more towards electro at 45. The reissue also includes two extra and unreleased Sparky tracks recorded at the same time as "Portland"—"Jigsaw" and "Wilson St." You can listen to a preview over at Bleep as well as the Numbers SoundCloud page. Clark has been active more recently as well—check out clips of his recent release as LUMA for Optimo Trax here. This weekend the Numbers crew will be in London to host a Numbers 10 rave, with Jackmaster, Hudson Mohawke, Optimo, Spencer and Redinho all set to spin. Tracklist 01. Portland 02. Jigsaw 03. Wilson St. 04. Portland (Ricardo Villalobos Remix Pt. 1) 05. Portland (Ricardo Villalobos Remix Pt. 2) Numbers will release Portland on December 9th.
