  • Joey Anderson will release his debut album on Dekmantel this April. To date the New Jersey artist's elegant style of house has appeared on labels like Latency, UntilMyHeartStops, Deconstruct Music and his own Inimeg Recordings. His career was famously given a shot in the arm by Levon Vincent, who opened his fabric 63 mix with Anderson's "Earth Calls." "Every track on the album has its own take on my personality, my mentality musically and my vision of off-dancefloor music," Anderson says. "I find it very difficult to create something for people just to like. I’d rather pay attention to making them get close to the album and uncover the ideas within it. Being my first LP, it's dedicated to my two daughters, Akatriel and Auset." After Forever will come out digitally, on CD and double-vinyl. It contains two tracks that appeared on Anderson's 2013 Fall Off Face EP for Dekmantel—"Sky's Blessings" and "Heaven's Archer"—in addition to nine new cuts. Speaking to RA, Anderson said his mind was "nowhere near the idea of an album" until Dekmantel pitched the offer to him. You can check out samples from the album via the label's SoundCloud, which we've embedded below.
We tracked down the producer for a quick chat about the record:
How long had you toyed with the idea of doing an album before deciding to produce After Forever? Before being approached, my mind was nowhere near the idea of an album, or constructing one. After I was approached by Dekmantel I began to think about it. I went back and forth mentally, then I decided, why not? Dekmantel are a great group of guys, and they operate a label that features artists I respect and admire. I thought it would be a great opportunity and honor to work with them. Also it would be a nice challenge for myself to package up a concept musically. Does the LP differ stylistically from what you've put out on 12-inches these past couple of years? I feel the LP is the same Joey, except for small other things I play around with or develop as I continue to work in my studio at home. An LP gives the opportunity to illustrate a novel or a body of work, and that's what I aimed for.
