- Smaller than their big brothers in the Moogerfooger line, the latest effects units from NC-based hardware makers boast all-analog insides.
Moog has announced Minifooger, a new line of effects pedals.
The Asheville, North Carolina-based synth and hardware maker has long been known for its Moogerfooger pedal line. Though guitarists might be the most obvious beneficiaries of their stompbox design, the pedals—decked out with MIDI and complex routing options—are valued for their studio applications as well. (In their Machine Love interview last year, Barker & Baumecker revealed that they're fans.)
The smaller Minifoogers may not be quite as feature-packed as their big brothers, but as Moog sees it, simplicity is a virtue. "Each Minifooger's user interface is centered on musicality and the ability to create new effects quickly," they write in their product announcement. This means simple, powerful controls for each pedal's all-analog circuitry, plus an expression pedal/CV input for more exploratory fiddling.
The line launches with five pedals: the MF Drive, for filter-based overdrive; the MF Boost, for tone enhancement and compression; the MF Delay, for bucket-brigade-style delay; the MF Ring, for ring modulation (based on the Moogerfooger MF-102); and the MF Trem, for tremolo. The most expensive unit will set you back just over $200. The video below, featuring the band Passion Pit, gives some idea of where these can take your sounds.
Moog's Minifooger Analog Effects Pedals are now available for suggested retail prices ranging from $149 to $209.
