  • Monome has a new device on the way called Aleph. Known for their eponymous, grid-based controller (see this month's Machine Love interview with Daedelus for the rundown), the bespoke controller maker, based in Upstate New York, has long focused on a single product range. Aleph, designed by Monome originator Brian Crabtree and the musician Ezra Buchla, brings the spirit of Monome—open-source programming, high-quality build—to a very different device. It features four digital inputs and outputs (with up to 192-kHz/24-bit resolution), four control voltage inputs and output, an array of optical encoders, a "beautifully low-res display" and USB (it can act as a host or device). As Create Digital Music notes, you can use those features in whatever way you choose. Have a look at the video below to get a sense of what this box is capable of. As for a release date, Monome lists "late fall" as Aleph's ship date. Monome will release Aleph later this year through their website for $1400.
