  • Dope Jams have announced the latest in their Slow To Speak imprint's CORE series: a trio of reissues from Eightball Records. The label, founded in the early '90s, was an outgrowth of a record shop of the same name in New York's East Village. Its first releases helped advance New York's signature house sound, with artists like Mood II Swing and Joi Cardwell helping to put the label in a similar league to Nu Groove. The label and shop shut down in 2003, but a number of their early releases have become underground classics. Dope Jams, who recently reopened in upstate New York after shutting down their Brooklyn home base earlier this year, have collected tracks from some of these key records. Mood II Swing's "I Need Your Luv" and "Penetration," from 1992's Wall Of Sound EP, are up first. "Makin' A Living" and "All The Same Family," which featured on The African Dream's self-titled 1994 album, are next, followed by "Tones" and "Sexy Whisper" from another 1994 release, Lem Springsteen's The Black Keys EP. Tracklist Mood II Swing - CORE-92 A/B A1 I Need Your Luv B1 Penetration The African Dream - CORE-94 R/S A1 Makin' A Living B1 All The Same Lem Springsteen - CORE-94 T/U A1 Tones B1 Sexy Whisper Slow To Speak will release CORE-92 A/B, CORE-94 R/S and CORE-94 T/U in July 2013.
