  • The first annual Riverside Groove will take place at Sindbad's Restaurant and Marina in Detroit on Saturday, July 13th. The event will bring a wealth of house and techno talent to the riverfront. In fact, according to organisers, attendees will have "a great view of the APBA Gold Cup Hydroplane races on the Detroit River," a competition for the oldest trophy in motor sports. (Click here if you're unfamiliar with these very fast motorboats.) The day's music will be staged at both indoor and outdoor areas, with festivities kicking off at 11 AM. Atop the lineup of nearly 20 acts are Dirtybird label co-founder Justin Martin, Rob Garza of the veteran downtempo duo Thievery Corporation and local house stalwart Delano Smith. Leftroom artist Kate Simko, from Chicago but now based in London, is also confirmed along with Nikola Baytala, Nitin and Detroit-based DJs like Monty Luke, John Johr and DJ Psycho. A long Sunday Citizens session at Old Miami this Sunday will double as Riverside Groove pre-party. Due to open at 7 AM, that one boasts its own expansive program happening both inside and out, and another Dirtybird artist, J.Phlip, is slated for an extended headlining set out in the yard. Also on hand will be Kevin Reynolds (playing live), DJ Minx and Jared Wilson, among many others.
