  • Matt Edwards (AKA Radio Slave) and Jamie Fry have announced the details of their new label, The Double R. The endeavour comes from two artists already experienced in running record labels: Edwards founded Rekids back in 2006 (and subsidiaries Pyramids Of Mars and Cabin Fever), while Jamie Fry started the anonymous collective STABLO back in 2010. The inspiration for The Double R, which intends to give a platform to relatively unknown new producers, comes primarily from STABLO, which "was kind of an experiment to see if these really exciting productions could be successful purely on [their] own musical terms," according to Fry. Edwards describes The Double R as a home for "fresh modern music that [stands] on its own," as well as "artists who have in some way influenced the label's music but are still somewhat unheralded," citing Iceland's Thor as an example. The Double R's first release, out this month, will come as a split from Berlin-based Romanian Liviu Groza and Boston's René Audiard. Future releases will feature Zoo Project resident Funk E, Vadim Svoboda and Kennedy Smith as well as 808 Fake. A full-length from Svoboda is also in the cards for later on in the year. You can stream clips of the first release here.
