  • FaltyDL and Bill Kouligas are among those confirmed to play the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Chicago this summer. Designed by acclaimed architect Frank Gehry and located at the north end of Millennium Park in Chicago's downtown area (AKA the Loop), the Pritzker Pavilion is widely considered to be the crown jewel of the city's public concert venues. It boasts an official capacity of 11,000 and a highly-regarded soundsystem suspended from arches overhead, to go with intimate views of the downtown skyline. (Check this photo for a panoramic look at the bandshell and its Great Lawn.) Admission is almost always free of charge, and concertgoers are usually allowed to picnic and bring their own alcohol. The Pritzker Pavilion has hosted a wide range of events since its opening in 2004. Classical and world music has usually been the focus, but an assortment of electronic acts have appeared in the past, such as Martyn, Jimmy Edgar, Caribou, Kate Simko and Tycho. Of particular note this year is the Loops and Variations series, whose events will take place on six select Thursday evenings in June, July and August. The series starts on June 13th with sets from Ninja Tune artist FaltyDL and Kouligas, the mind behind Berlin experimental outpost PAN. Matmos, who released an album back in February called The Marriage of True Minds which was described by RA's Angus Finlayson as "a bewildering but masterfully-executed collage of sounds and styles," will appear later in the month. Highlights across the rest of the series include Nosaj Thing, Dan Deacon and Lesley Flanigan, who will play the final concert on August 28th.
