  • A four-show, three-city visit to the US is coming up for Italian techno artist Neel. Neel is probably best known for his work alongside fellow Italian Donato Dozzy as Voices From The Lake—their debut LP on Prologue earned RA's pick as the top album of 2012. So far he's kept a low profile as a solo producer—he's got a remix of Peter Van Hoesen that'll soon be released on Time To Express—but tuned-in fans will also know him as a deep-diving DJ and a studio engineer who's done mastering work for Prologue and other labels like Morphine Records, Silent Season, Attic Music and Abdulla Rashim Records. The four parties will mark Neel's first solo DJ appearances in North America, following last summer's VFTL tour with Dozzy. He'll be linking up with New York's Beyond Booking, and Bryan Kasenic from Beyond (and longtime local series The Bunker) will also play at three of these events. First, Neel and Kasenic will play The Bunker's residency at Smart Bar in Chicago this Saturday, with Karl Meier from Fear of Music supporting. Then, like Dozzy has done during some of his previous visits to New York, Neel will DJ at Francois K's Deep Space weekly at Cielo next Monday, before playing for The Bunker on Friday. This edition of the party will take place at 12-turn-13, and along with Kasenic, Berlin-based Deadbeat will be on hand to show off his dubby techno style with a live set. Neel, Deadbeat and Kasenic will then head to San Francisco for Techno Casino, a fundraising event for the Gray Area Foundation For The Arts, or GAFFTA, which helped host a local VFTL show with The Bunker last year. That's the last gig on Neel's mini-tour, and it will be topped off by a live versus set between Deadbeat and arch-experimentalist Monolake.
