- The new Calgary label will drop its first release in May.
Modern Math will launch its new label in late May.
Modern Math Recordings is a new partnership between the Calgary club night of the same name and Crude Records, a label started back in 2011 to showcase producers from Western Canada. Both entities have focused largely on bass music in the past, but especially recently have been exploring techno and house territory as well. The new imprint will have the same emphasis on Canadian artists as its predecessor.
The inaugural EP will come from Calgary duo Sanctums, whose sound was described in a recent RA review as "[occupying] a space somewhere between the lines of techno, ambient and downtempo." Theirs will be a six-tracker, followed by releases from Vancouver artists Michael Red and Taal Mala later this summer.
