  • Cio D'Or will resume touring this month with three shows in the United States. The German artist's deep and hypnotic approach to techno has earned her a global following, and her fans will be happy to know she's once again on the move after more than a year away from touring. Gigs in Europe and Asia are confirmed in the coming months, but first she'll pack her bags for a brief visit stateside. The three gigs will see D'Or making her debut in each city, starting in Seattle next Wednesday at a High & Tight night. Then on Friday, she'll hit Los Angeles for a party with Incognito and Dirty Epic. Prologue labelmate Lena Deen and Pro-Tez Records co-founder Ed Vertov—both Russian natives now based in LA—will lead the local support at that one with a versus set. D'Or's US mini-tour will come to a close next Saturday in Boulder, where she's billed for a Communikey Festival afterparty. Ahead of the tour, RA had a brief chat with D'Or via email to see what she's been up to lately.
These will be your first gigs since 2011. Why did you take a break from touring? Time was running ever faster, leaving my soul behind. My great love, music in its many facets, was driving me to the utmost effort, in my own pieces, as well as mixes, remixes or sets. When I'm working on a project, I like the impression of it never ending... until I feel I have said everything musically and technically. This perfectionism unfortunately is part of my calling, and costs a lot of time and energy. How did you know now was the right time to hit the road again? After finding some peace and quiet, and some relaxed interaction with my new equipment, I immersed myself in musical theory and piano music, playing small infinite-sounding piano loops. Employing the use of orchestral instruments enabled me to expand my musical repertoire—also for film soundtracks and theatre pieces. This has resulted in my first cinematic theatre composition, which I have recently completed, and will be premiered this September in Salzburg. And now? Now it's time for techno, too! What can US fans expect from these upcoming shows? The same, but different! And will there be any new productions from you in 2013? Yes, I'm currently working on various techno tracks, piano pieces and sounds. However, I don't want to say too much about works in progress. In which form and when new music will be released, I will decide in close co-operation with my label Prologue.
