  • Bristol troupe Young Echo will release an album called Nexus through Ramp Recordings on May 27th. The five-man collective comprising Vessel, El Kid, Kahn and Zhou (AKA Jabu and Ishan Sound) have each enjoyed success with their various individual and collaborative projects. Together as Young Echo they present a monthly radio show from their HQ in Bristol, and in the past have invited guests such as Ekoplekz, Huerco S and Hieroglyphic Being. Adopting an anything-goes approach to the curation of their shows and a broad palette in their productions, the group's sound touches on house, dub, hip-hop and experimental music, all underpinned by the bass-heavy lineage of their home city. Nexus seems to fall somewhere between album and compilation, with most tracks produced by one or two of the collective. Speaking to FACT, the group said some of the tracks that appear date back to 2010. "We treated it as much as a compilation as a conventional album—most of the tracks were written before we had seriously began thinking about releasing an album as a group, so most of the music wasn't necessarily written with this album in mind," they said. The album will preceded by a single, Blood Sugar, due out in April. You can listen to a clip for album track "Jupiter Rise" via the YouTube player below. An album launch party will be held this Saturday, March 30th, at the Take Five Cafe in Bristol.
