The Sydney winter festival will light up the city once again from May 24th.
Vivid, Sydney's annual citywide winter festival is returning on May 24th for 18 days.
The Sydney Opera House had already announced Kraftwerk as the headline act for Vivid LIVE, with the group playing their post-Autobahn catalogue live across four nights with a 3D audiovisual component accompanying each of the eight albums. Now the remainder of the 2013 program has been revealed, with Australian electronic pop act Empire Of The Sun also leading the bill. Highlights of this year's lineup include a part symphonic, part electronic performance of Vangelis' Blade Runner score by the Heritage Orchestra in the Concert Hall of the Opera House on May 26th. The following night, again in the Concert Hall, Underworld's Karl Hyde will be playing his new solo album, Edgeland, in full as well as performing a number of the influential duo's key past works. On the 29th, Live_Transmission, a deconstruction and reworking of the music of Joy Division, will also be presented by the Heritage Orchestra along with UK electronic composer Robin Rimbaud, AKA Scanner, at the Joan Sutherland Theatre. Bobby Womack, Scott Walker and Cloud Control are also among those billed for events at the Opera House.
Local promoters Finely Tuned will be curating two nights at Customs Hall by the Overseas Passenger Terminal in The Rocks, under the Terminal Projekt banner, as part of the extended Vivid MUSIC programming. June the 8th sees Parisian outfit dOP and Hotflush duo Sepalcure both playing live, with Jimmy Edgar completing the bill. On the 9th, Tensnake, HNQO and The Revenge will all be taking to the stage. While these two shows begin at 4 PM, the Terminal Bar will be open from midday on June 8th, 9th and 10th.
Dance shows inside The Studio are yet to be announced, although it has been revealed that Future Classic, Goodgod Small Club and Club Kooky will all be hosting events as they have done in previous years. The full programme, along with tickets, can be found on the Vivid Sydney website.
