Editions Mego plan day-long event in East Sussex

- Editions Mego are plotting a day-long event in East Sussex on May 11th. Listed in the releases section of their website under catalogue number eMego 170, the forthcoming "release" is in fact an event focused both on the label's roster of artists and the European avant-garde lineage they're a part of. The day's festivities will take place across two rooms at the seaside De La Warr Pavilion, described as one of Britain's first major modernist buildings. The live room will feature mainstays of Editions Mego's stable, with Fennesz—one of the label's leading lights since the release of the ambient artist's first LP in 1997—occupying the closing slot. Mark Fell, whose releases under his own name and as Sensate Focus have been some of the imprint's recent highlights, is also on the bill, and he'll be staging sound and visual installations throughout the venue over the course of the day. Performances by Mark Van Hoen (under his Locust alias), Billy Roisz, Bruce Gilbert, Russell Haswell and Kevin Drumm round out the lineup. PAN label head Bill Kouligas and Editions Mego regular Mat Steel will also be DJing in the bar. A second room will showcase music from the archives of the INA-GRM, a French studio pivotal to the development of electronic music and the current subject of a reissue series from Editions Mego. Pieces from composers like Luc Ferrari and Bernard Parmegiani will be presented in surround sound, as will a new work by Tim Hecker. Though the event isn't an Editions Mego release in the traditional sense, ticket holders will receive a CD compilation featuring all of the artists on the bill. (The final tracklist will be announced at the end of March.) eMego 170 also comes at a particularly busy period for the label, with works from guitarists Alan Licht, EVOL, sound artist Jim Haynes, the aforementioned Locust and Sensate Focus all due out over the next few months, while music from Iannis Xenakis, Dominique Guiot and more feature on the GRM sublabel.
