  • Daniel Wang will play his first Australian shows since 2005 this month. The US-born Berlin resident has had a marked influence on the current disco scene since the release of his Look Ma No Drum Machine EP two decades ago, which included the still celebrated cut "Like Some Dream". Save for his 2001 debut LP Idealism and three 12-inches on Morgan Geist's Environ imprint, the outspoken producer's Balihu label serves as the home for the bulk of his catalogue, cultivating an often obscure and nostalgic disco sound. While Wang has released very little new material in recent years, he continues to DJ regularly around Europe, appearing at a number of Horse Meat Disco's parties in Berlin. Now making his way back to Australia for the first time in more than seven years, Wang will be appearing in three cities this month, starting with a show at Adelaide's Sugar on January 17th. The following evening he heads to Melbourne to play an Animals Dancing show at The Mercat Basement with residents Tornado Wallace, Andee Frost and Otologic, before hitting Sydney on January 19th for Picnic's Sydney Festival show at Town Hall with Metro Area's Darshan Jesrani. Tickets to the Melbourne show can be purchased here on RA.
