Basic Soul Unit throws album release party in Toronto

- Kevin McPhee, Pursuit Grooves and Jason Ulrich will also be on the bill as Stuart Li celebrates the release of his debut album, Motional Response.
- Toronto producer Basic Soul Unit will keep it local when he celebrates the release of his new LP Motional Response at The Rivoli on Saturday, February 2nd. Stuart Li's work as Basic Soul Unit has seen release on labels like Versatile Records, Ostgut Ton and Nonplus over the past decade. Motional Response, which earned a 4/5 rating here on RA, is Li's debut full-length album and first release on Chicago's Still Music imprint. At next month's party, Li will showcase his deep, soulful take on house and techno with a live set featuring local singer-songwriter Sacha Williamson. In fact, the night's program is made up of all Toronto-based talent, with an emphasis on "groove regardless of genre." Tectonic and Deepblak artist Pursuit Grooves, a recent transplant from the US, will also play live. Sets on the decks will come from Kevin McPhee, who's about to put out a track on Martyn's 3024 imprint, and Li's Lab.our Union collaborator Jason Ulrich.
