  • Atoms For Peace will release their first album, AMOK, next year on XL Recordings. Atoms For Peace is what you might call a super-group: the ensemble includes Radiohead's Thom Yorke and the studio engineer that's often referred to as their sixth member, Nigel Godrich, plus two drummers (Joey Waronker and Mauro Refosco) and Flea, the celebrated bassist for Red Hot Chili Peppers. Yorke explains: "We formed to learn to play The Eraser record, if you don't know that, and discovered a really good energy doing that.. and it fell into this record." Their first recorded material was a split remix EP for 50 Weapons, which they followed up in September with Default, a one-track release on XL Recordings. Both records bore Yorke's distinctive style (vocal and otherwise), but more overtly inspired by contemporary electronic music than usual. Yorke first mentioned AMOK in interviews last month with Pitchfork and Rolling Stone. (He said of the recording process: "We were at Flea's house. We got wasted, played pool and listened to Fela Kuti all night.") The record features eight new tracks from the group, plus "Default." It's due out in February on CD and vinyl (both also available in deluxe versions) and digitally. In the meantime, you can hear clips from the album on the band's official website. Tracklist 01.
