- 22 of the grime group's instrumentals will be released via No Hats No Hoods this December.
No Hats No Hoods will release White Label Classics, a collection of Ruff Sqwad instrumentals, this December.
Formed in 2001 in East London by a group of teenage MCs, producers and DJs, Ruff Sqwad are one of grime's foundational groups. They're still releasing new tunes, but their back catalog of rhythmically spry instrumentals has had a particularly long life, with DJs like Jackmaster and Ben UFO continuing to work them into their sets. It's these tracks that White Label Classics seeks to put back into circulation. No Hats No Hoods label head DJ Magic collaborated with Ruff Sqwad's head engineer Rapid on the tracklist. Though the collection tops out at 22 tracks, Magic recently told Sonic Router they could have easily put out three volumes of instrumentals. In addition to a 16-page booklet of color photos, the set comes with an interview with Rapid and fellow Ruff Sqwad producer Dirty Danger.
