  • Rick Wilhite and Joe Babylon have put together a house compilation called Connecting the Compass, due for release in early 2013. Both of the album's curators are house music veterans. Joe Babylon, AKA Joe Marougi, is a California native who's been at it for some 25 years, DJing, producing and running record labels (first Plug Research, then Roundabout Sounds). Wilhite, meanwhile, is one of Detroit's most esteemed (if under-appreciated) house artists, with decades of soulful house productions under his own name and as part of the group 3 Chairs (with Theo Parrish, Moodymann and Marcellus Pittmann). Connecting the Compass shows them handpicking 11 previously unreleased tracks by some of their friends. These include Motor City artists like Pittman and Norm Talley as well as European acts like Soulphiction, Baaz and Smallville artists Jacques Bon and Nicolas Villebrun. Marougi and Wilhite both appear as well, with the latter deliver a "Godson Mix" of Parrish's "I'm Going Down Stairs." The compilation will be available on vinyl through Roundabout Sounds. You can hear a preview of the album right here.
